Callers claim to be employees of the IRS, but are not. These callers sound professional and are very convincing, and use fake names and fake IRS ID numbers. Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license.
Always remember the IRS WILL NOT call you!!!
The IRS will never call to demand immediate payment, they will mail you a bill if you owe taxes. They will also not threaten to bring in local police to arrest you for non-payment, nor will they demand payment without allowing the opportunity to question or appeal the money owed. The IRS will never ask for credit card or debit card numbers.
Scammers are sending fake tax bills to people through e-mail. The fake bill refers to taxes owed under the Affordable Care Act. If you receive an e-mail like this, DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS!
Always remember the IRS WILL NOT contact you through e-mail or social media!!!
